Documentary on Sakine Cansız to meet the audience

The documentary is named after Cansız’s book “My whole life was a struggle” which summarizes her 55 years of struggle in the Kurdish armed movement.

Women’s teams have been working on the documentary in Turkey-North Kurdistan, South Kurdistan and Europe since May of 2013.

The documentary was directed by Dersim Zêrevan, a student of the guerrilla director Halil Uysal, and produced by Bircan Delal Yıldız, Elif Engil Şimşek and Şehbal Şenyurt.

The script of the documentary was written again by women on the basis of Sakine Cansız’s diaries and three-volume book “My whole life was a struggle”. The documentary also involves interviews with over 70 people who witnessed Cansız’s childhood, youth and years of imprisonment as well as her struggle in the mountain, Middle East and Europe. Music has been provided by Mikail Aslan and Cemil Qoçgiri.

A hundred hours of shooting for the documentary was compiled in an hour and 35 minutes.

The documentary is in Kurmancî language and has been translated into 7 languages including English, German, Italian, Flemish and French to convey Sara’s struggle to the other peoples around the world. Works are going on for the translation of the documentary into Spanish, Persian and Arabic as well.

The documentary will be premiered in the first week of January when Sakine Cansız (Sara), Fidan Doğan (Rojbin) and Leyla Şaylemez (Ronahî) were killed in the heart of French capital Paris in 2013.

The premier of the documentary is expected to take place concurrently in Paris and Amed, and it will be displayed at film festivals later on.
