PYD: Imrali fire raises suspicion, anxiety; our people must go to streets

The co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) expressed its concern and doubts over reports of a fire on the island of Imrali, where leader Abdullah Ocalan is being held, and he called on everyone to go out to the streets and demand the disclosure of Ocalan’s health and safety.

Turkish media reported that a fire broke out on the island of Imrali, where leader Abdullah Ocalan is being held.

The co-chair of the Democratic Union Party, in a special statement to our agency, expressed their concern and doubts about Ocalan’s safety, and called for an immediate permission for lawyers to visit Imrali.

The co-chair authority of the Democratic Union Party said that the outbreak of the fire in Imrali Island with the conditions of the current sensitive phase, as well as coinciding with the anniversary of the negotiations (Dolmah Bahjah), which is to be held on 28th of February, raising doubts about the health and safety of leader Abdullah Ocalan.

In the statement, the party added, “The fire incident is a source of fear and anxiety on the part of our party, as well as by the popular circles, over the health and safety of Ocalan, and demanded that the lawyers be allowed to visit Imrali and meet with Ocalan and dispel the fears of our people.”

The co-chair authority of the Democratic Union Party also appealed to all the peoples of the region to go out to the streets and express their concern about Ocalan’s health and safety and demand that lawyers be allowed to visit Imrali Prison.
