Jihad Omar: We are Trying to Hold Comprehensive Conference Gathers Opposition

In a special interview conducted by the Democratic Union website with Jihad Omar, the co-chair of the Office of Diplomatic Relations in the Syrian Democratic Council(MSD) on several points related to the democratic project in the north and east of Syria.
Here is the text of the interview
What kind of workshops do you conduct in Europe?
The workshop was focused on three main points, including the experience of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria – the roadmap that emerged from Syrian-Syrian dialogues through Ain Issa forums First and second and third in Kobanî – and finally a mechanism to hold a conference of secular democratic opposition forces.

We have developed a” work program “in which we have held workshops in Paris and then in Vienna. We also have a workshop in Germany and a workshop is likely to be held in Scandinavia.
Omar stressed that the aim of these workshops is to meet with figures from the Syrian democratic opposition in order to convey the idea of the democratic project that we adopt from the “model of the Autonomous Administration experience in northern and eastern Syria and to explain the mechanism of holding an opposition conference.
Omar added that in the context of his talk that there is a program to hold such workshops in Lebanon and Egypt, and in light of which we will hold workshops inside Syria in the areas of the Autonomous Administration of northern and eastern Syria.
Was the outcome of the Paris workshop positive?
In fact, the views were exchanged among the attendees, as many of them were observing and following the region’s news from the media which were against the democratic experience of the Autonomous Administration.
“All the attendees supported these workshops because the experience of the Autonomous Administration is a successful experience, and how can we make this experience a breakthrough to be a model that is applied throughout Syria,” Omar said.

Why did you choose Vienna this time?
We chose several areas of the opposition Arab community such as France, Vienna, and Germany for reasons of travel, and because Vienna has a serious place to contain a part of the opposition
Do you expect the positive results of these workshops?
Yes, we are optimistic about such workshops, because they will produce opinions, ideas, and visions for holding an opposition conference. There was a positive presence of political figures who can rely on them and reach common ideas and perceptions.
