Greece: Erdogan’s Goal of “Safe Area” is to Separate Kurds of Turkey, Syria

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis  criticized Erdogan’s policy and claims of a “safe area “east of the Euphrates River in northern Syria.

This came in press statements made on the sidelines of his participation in the work of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to the newspaper “Sebah” of Turkey.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis  criticized Erdogan’s remarks during his recent address to the UN General Assembly that one million to two million Syrian refugees could be returned to northern Syria if a safe area was established there.

Commenting on the remarks, the Greek Prime Minister said, “Erdogan wants to create a safe area in northern Syria where the Sunnis live to separate the Kurds of Turkey and Syria.”

“The solution is to pay more money to Turkey to take care of the refugees inside the Turkish territory,” he added.
