Shengal to Remain Impenetrable Barrier in Face of Invaders

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the dark gloom that came to Shengal and its peaceful people. On this day, the dark forces invaded Shengal after being left alone with no help or support to meet their black fate. Daesh which invaded Mosul on June 10, 2014, on August 3, went to Shengal to start committing the most heinous genocide against religion and people during the twenty-first century of captivity, murder and torture; these words became part of the memory of our people in Shengal and a deep wound.

Those who were supposed to protect Yazidis in Shengal abandoned them and left them facing their fate alone. The People’s Protection Units(YPG) opened a humanitarian corridor to our defenseless people and saved them from captivity, murder and torture. With this date, a new stage began for the Shengal people. With the entry of PKK troops, they began to build up their own strength and urge them to return to their land and defend it. The people of Shengal realized that they had no self-strength and could not confront any hostile force. Believing in human values, SDF planned to liberate the women and children whose families had been arrested and fought this terrorist organization to avenge Shengal and its people.

Today, after the military victory on Daesh; breaking the source of the global terrorist by the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Global Coalition, there are those who built hopes on extremist terrorist organizations like Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra,  the Turkish regime considered what happened to Daesh as a slap to it because it ends one of its tools through which it would expand and invade into Syrian territory.

What Turkey and Erdogan are doing is a threat to the Autonomous Administration areas of northern and eastern Syria stemming from the hatred and anger against a people who have thwarted his schemes one by one in expansion both in Iraq and Syria. Erdogan did not forget the dam that was created by the YPG, and later the PKK Forces in the face of his plans and tools that were broken in front of the heroic resistance in the Kurdistan region. It is well known that the Turkish cooperation with Daesh in Mosul continued where the Turkish consul who has been at Daesh’s hospitality for more than a month. The borders were open for the terrorists to enter Syrian territory and work to destroy it. What Erdogan is doing is revenge from the popular forces that have united from “Kurds and Arabs, Muslims, Christians and Yezidis” in the face of terrorism and their colonial schemes, and this is why he makes the baseless arguments to invade the Autonomous Administration areas of northern and eastern Syria.

The spirit of resistance that spread in Shengal is today a force that trusts itself and will not hesitate to defend its land and its people; it is the same spirit that protected the Syrian north and saved it from terrorism and will remain the protector of its land and its people.

We, at the General Council of PYD, while commemorating this painful occasion, we call on our people in Shengal to strengthen their organizational and defense forces to block any possible aggression. We also call upon our people to learn lessons from what happened and to protect and enhance the achievements of its revolution, which brought it to advanced stages thanks to the blood of our noble martyrs, and the resistance of our people. We extend the hand of peace and want to move to a stage of peace away from the bullets and the voices of the guns, but we will not abandon our people, our land and our gains, and we will strive to protect them at all levels.

The General Council of PYD
